Football High Live: Updates from Friday’s Week 1 playoff games

We finish cutting the AHSAA playoff field in half tonight with the remainder of the games from Round 1. Though there was an unusually heavy slate of games on Thursday, tonight’s schedule brings more intriguing matchups.

There are a pair of Top 10 matchups in 7A. No. 3 Mary G. Montgomery tries to win the first playoff game in school history against No. 5 Dothan. No. 4 Auburn travels to play Mississippi State commit Josh Flowers and No. 8 Baker. All seven teams ranked No. 1 in the final ASWA football rankings this week are in action as well.

7:10 PM, Legends, pregame: Check out Terry Curtis of UMS-Wright and Danny Horn of Central-Clay County before the start of their Class 5A first-round game! Lots of experience during that heart-to-heart.

4 PM, Good news on the injury front: Thompson High radio play-by-play man Jerry Young reported on social media this morning that scans were negative on a Florence player injured in Thursday’s game in Alabaster and he is back home tonight. Praise God for that. The game was delayed approximately 15-20 minutes as the player was taken off the field by ambulance.

3 PM, Nothing But a Good Time: Mike Perrin will be kicking off the live update tonight as I will be on location in Montgomery to celebrate Veteran’s Day with Poison frontman Bret Michaels, but I’ll be back later in the night. And, yes, every rose does have its thorn.
