7:08 PM, Big 7A games:

No. 8 Mary G. Montgomery 7, No. 9 Foley 0 (9:46 1st)

No. 2 Central-Phenix City 3, No. 3 Enterprise (9:07 1st)

7:04 PM, Early score: Mortimer Jordan fumbles the opening kickoff at home. Two plays later, Gardendale is in the end zone. Mac Beason hits Caiden Combs with a 26-yard TD pass. Rockets lead 6-0 with less than a minute gone in the game.

Westminster Christian 7, North Jackson 0 (9:10 1st)

7:01 PM, Coach missing: Etowah is playing its first game tonight without coach Matt Glover, who was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday for unspecified reasons. Blake Bone, who won the state baseball championship last spring, is the interim coach. Blue Devils playing at Ashford.

6:57 PM, Battle in the North: Bob Jones and James Clemens renew the Madison Bowl rivalry tonight. The Patriots won 26-19 last season to snap a four-year skid to their crosstown rival. Bob Jones hasn’t started 0-3 since 2019 (0-4 that year).

6:54 PM, Is tonight the night for Rush? Rush Propst and Pell City have been close to pulling upsets each of the first two weeks only to fall late against Moody and Leeds. Can the Panthers shock the state tonight against 6A No. 2 Clay-Chalkville and Alabama commit Jaylen Mbakwe?

6:47 PM, Several big ones in Mobile: The lineup in the 251 is strong tonight. It includes a pair of Class 7A battles with No. 8 MGM hosting No. 9 Foley and Mississippi State commit Josh Flowers and Baker hosting Davidson. It also includes a 5A, Region 1 battle between Gulf Shores and Faith Academy.

6:45 PM, It’s been awhile: Class 7A No. 1 Thompson is back on the field tonight. The Warriors haven’t played since opening the season with a win over Opelika in Montgomery in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic. They had their Week 2 game with IMG Academy canceled. Tonight, they host Region 3 rival Vestavia Hills.

6:43 PM, Can anyone slow down Catholic? The Knights are at home tonight against Auburn LB commit Joe Phillips and B.T. Washington.

6:40 PM, Somber night: It will be a somber night for Albertville and Calera football families tonight. The schools each lost a player this week in a car accident. Praying tonight for a celebration of the lives of Albertville’s Julius Jamear “J.J.” Staten and Calera’s Brayden Ray.
