Football High Live: Highlights from Friday’s Round 2 playoff games

All seven reigning state champions are in action tonight in the second round of the AHSAA high school football playoffs.

Key matchups across the state include Enterprise at Mary G. Montgomery, Auburn at Central-Phenix City, Highland Home at B.B. Comer and Mars Hill at Madison Academy.

6:44 PM, Down Towns: Will the rematch between Auburn and No. 1 Central-Phenix City come down to a field goal? If so, the Tigers’ Towns McGough will likely be ready. He’s been basically automatic this year.

6:36 PM, Ready to go? Spain Park transfer Jared Smith is dressed out for the first time for Thompson as it hosts Vestavia Hills, but officials say he is not likely to play in the Class 7A quarterfinal tonight.

1:20 PM, Another coaching opening: Three-time state champion coach Jamey DuBose told his team Friday morning that he was stepping down after two seasons with the Makos. DuBose won a pair of state championships as head coach at Prattville and another at Central-Phenix City. Read about the decision here.

NOON, Champs! The AISA crowned its four champions on Thursday at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. Lowndes Academy, Chambers Academy, Lee-Scott and Cornerstone (8-man) took home the titles. For a complete roundup of the games, click this link.

10 AM, Hall of Famers: The AHSAA announced the 12-member class for the 2024 class of the Alabama high school hall of fame on Friday morning. It included football coaches Phillip Lolley, Rick Rhoades and Perry Swindall. For the complete list, check out this link.
