Food Network reschedules Guy Fieri’s next taste of Mobile dining scene

We’re going to have to wait a little longer than expected to see Guy Fieri take another bite of the Mobile-area dining scene.

In June, Fieri and production crews for his Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” put in some time in Lower Alabama, visiting six Mobile-area restaurants. Five of those segments have aired, giving Fieri fans a look at Southwood Kitchen, The Noble South, Roosters, The Hummingbird Way and Front Yard Tacos.

The sixth, spotlighting the Meat Boss barbecue restaurant, had been scheduled to premiere on Friday, Dec. 29. However, it’s been pushed back to the start of the show’s next season. Meat Boss notified fans in recent days of the change via Facebook.

The show’s website now says the segment will be in the first episode of the show’s 39th season but does not yet list an airdate. According to the Meat Boss post, it’s expected to be sometime in early 2024. One interesting point: According to the Food Network synopsis, the episode will feature segments on two restaurants rather than three. That could mean Meat Boss will be featured in a longer segment than usual. The other restaurant showcased in “Smokin’ Southern Decadence” is Atlanta steakhouse LowCountry Steak, where offerings include lobster mac ‘n’ cheese.

This much is for sure: The train to Flavortown isn’t stopping anytime soon. At the end of November, Food Network announced a new three-year exclusive deal with Fieri. In addition to continuing “DDD,” “Guy’s Grocery Games” and “Tournament of Champions,” Fieri “will continue to take an active role in the development and production of his own series through his Knuckle Sandwich production banner while continuing to partner with the network and producers on new and existing series.”

There is one silver lining to the postponement. If you want to visit Meat Boss before the world finds out about its Boss Burger and “Meat Candy,” you’ve got some more time. The restaurant is closed for the holidays and will reopen Jan. 2 at 10 a.m.
