Foley 5-star WR Perry Thompson sticks with Auburn

Perry Thompson is officially a part of what Auburn hopes will be the “Freeze 5.”

The 5-star Foley wide receiver, who flipped from Alabama to Auburn this summer, signed with the Tigers on Wednesday morning at his school.

Alabama coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide was still recruiting Thompson as late as last week. Thompson had an Auburn and an Alabama hat on the table at Foley High School before ultimately taking off his jacket to reveal an Auburn jersey and putting on the Auburn hat before a big crowd.

Thompson is expected to join fellow receivers Malcolm Simmons (Benjamin Russell), Bryce Cain (Baker) and Cam Coleman (Central-Phenix City) as incoming freshman receivers. Auburn also is still heavily recruiting Alabama commit Ryan Williams, who announced last week he was reclassifying into the current Class of 2024.

Thompson visited Auburn on Saturday and Sunday.

The No. 6 player on AL.com’s A-List of top senior recruits in Alabama, Thompson played on offense, defense and special teams for the Lions as a senior. On offense, he completed 5-of-6 passes for 93 yards and 2 TDs, rushed for 102 yards and a TD and caught 53 passes for 718 yards and 7 TDs.

The 6-foot-3, 202-pound Thompson is No. 4 among the 247 composite rankings of top seniors in the state behind Coleman, Williams and Clay-Chalkville’s Jaylen Mbakwe.
