Florida woman charged with throwing glass of wine at Matt Gaetz
A 41-year-old Tallahassee woman is charged with battery on an elected official after she threw a glass of wine at U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz.
The Florida Republican was speaking at an event in Miramar Beach over the weekend when the woman, identified as Selena Chambers, shouted obscenities at Gaetz and then thew a glass of wine at him, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
Chambers was immediately taken into custody. She posted $1,000 bond and was released the following day.
“We cannot allow an environment where you can throw things at elected officials because you don’t like them,” said Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
“No matter your political affiliation, this is not the way to conduct yourself and will not be tolerated in Walton County.”
