A Florida man was killed when a tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 20 in Talladega County.

Alabama State Troopers on Wednesday identified the victim as Jesus M. Pita. He was 54 and lived in Homestead.

The wreck happened at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday on I-20 near Mahaffey Road, about seven miles west of Oxford.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said Pita was driving the Peterbilt tractor-trailer that left the interstate and overturned.

Pita was pronounced dead on the scene.

His passenger, 29-year-old Leonard N. Hilliard of Georgia, was taken to Baptist Health Citizens Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers.
