Florida man shoots father trying to run over family with car, deputies say
A Florida man was critically wounded when his son opened fire on him after deputies say the man tried to run over his son and wife outside their home.
According to the Baker County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were notified of a “disturbance” in progress just before 1 a.m. Tuesday. As they were in route to the location, a second 911 call notified them that someone had been shot at the residence.
Arriving at the scene, deputies learned there had been a domestic incident between a husband and wife, with the wife reportedly being physically abused by the husband. That led to an altercation between the man and his adult son, who also lived at the residence.
The son had stepped in to protect his mother, according to the sheriff’s office, and he and his father had a physical altercation in the front yard of the home. The mother and son both told deputies the father/husband then got into a vehicle and attempted to run over his wife and son.
The son, however, had retrieved a firearm and opened fire at the moving vehicle, striking his father at least once. Deputies responding to the scene rendered aid before the man was airlifted to a trauma center in Jacksonville, about 30 miles east.
No injuries were reported to the mother and son. The identities of those involved have not been released.
No charges have been filed, but the sheriff’s office said they are in contact with the Florida State Attorney’s Office and the investigation remains ongoing.
