Officers arrived to find Taylor unresponsive inside a vehicle. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said the city’s gunfire detection system – Shot Spotter – alerted police to at least six rounds fired in that area.
As police were heading to the location, 911 received multiple calls from citizens reporting a person had been shot.
Investigators said some type of altercation took place before the unknown suspect fired the fatal shots.
The charge is a capital offense because Taylor was inside a vehicle when he was killed.
