Flat Rock woman, 77, killed in two-vehicle crash

A Flat Rock woman has died of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision.

Lila F. Lay, 77, was critically injured when the 1998 Ford Ranger pickup she was driving struck the rear of the 2007 Ford Expedition driven by Charles C. Baker, 33, also of Flat Rock. Lay was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., for medical treatment but was pronounced dead the following day.

The crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 on Highway 71 near mile marker 23, approximately 1 mile north of Flat Rock in Jackson County.

According to a report from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Lay was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
