Fisherman finds woman alive in Jeep submerged in Texas lake

Officials called to remove a Jeep found submerged in a lake ended up discovering a woman was alive inside the vehicle, a few hours after she had been reported missing.

A news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office says a fisherman called the department on Friday morning saying he had spotted the vehicle in Lake o’ the Pines about 40 feet from a boat ramp.

Deputies arrived at the the lake nearly 20 minutes later and waited for a tow service to pull the vehicle out of the water, sheriff’s Capt. Chuck Rogers tells Yahoo! News. When the tow truck arrived, the fisherman took one of its workers out on the lake in a boat so a hook could be attached to the Jeep.

It was then they discovered a person was still inside the Jeep and was moving, the sheriff’s office says. The fisherman and tow-truck worker were able to safely remove the woman from the Jeep and pull her into the boat.

It’s unclear how long the woman was in the water but it was at least a few hours, Rogers tells Yahoo! News. The woman, who had been reported missing to the Longview, Texas, police department a few hours earlier, was taken to a hospital and treated for hypothermia.

The identity of the woman has not been released.
