Firefighters rescue person trapped in burning east Birmingham home

A person trapped inside a burning home in east Birmingham on Thursday was rescued by firefighters, officials said.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel encountered fire and smoke inside the one-story house in the 400 block of 87th Street South, BFRS Capt. Orlando Reynolds said early Thursday evening.

One person inside the home was rescued.

No other occupants were inside the house at the time of the fire, Reynolds said.

Smoke billowed from the roof of the home as of 6:45 p.m. Thursday as siding on the house was charred with ash.
