Finebaum has message for ‘people in panic’ over Alabama’s performance against USF

Paul Finebaum has a message for all Alabama fans, including “people in panic,” after the Crimson Tide’s win over South Florida in which the 42-16 score was not reflective of the game.

None of it matters.

Hardly sounds like the “hot take” we would come to expect from the SEC Network analyst, but, as he said Monday during his weekly appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX-FM 94.5 in Birmingham, we’ve seen this movie before.

“I think Alabama fans ought to learn what we all learned a year ago,” Finebaum said.  “Any take, any hot take, any opinion on a game with South Florida is completely worthless, because we got nothing out of that last year. And, while I was hearing from friends Saturday night, people in panic, it turned out that the score says Alabama won. It looked like a comfortable win. We all know it wasn’t, and I, frankly, don’t think it makes a bit of difference.”

The Tide led South Florida 14-13, before scoring 28 points in the fourth quarter, including three touchdowns in the last 5:50 of the game.

“I know that sounds like I’m just wiping it away, but sometimes that happens,” Finebaum said. “The fact that Alabama could win the fourth quarter in such a dominating fashion to me is good.

“There are issues. We read way too much into last week, which we always do sometimes. The most important thing is to move on, go on the road in a game they should win.”
