Final ASWA prep poll: 2 football teams go wire-to-wire at No. 1

Reigning Class 1A champ Leroy and reigning 6A champ Saraland were the only teams to go wire-to-wire at No. 1 in their respective classifications in 2023.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its final rankings for the 2023 season today. The ASWA does not rank teams in the playoffs. Also, there are no AISA rankings this week as those teams are already in the playoffs.

RELATED: This week’s playoff schedule

Saraland went 10-0 and will host McAdory in the first round of the playoffs on Friday. Leroy went 9-0 despite their head coach, Jason Massey, being deployed in the middle of the season. The Bears host Calhoun in Week 1.
