Fights shut down Greater Gulf State Fair but no evidence of gunfire, Mobile police say

Mobile police say they found no evidence to corroborate reports of gunfire at the Greater Gulf State Fair Saturday night.

Officials shut down the fair earlier than its scheduled midnight closing time, after reports of individuals fighting and a crowd surge which triggered several subsequent fights, according to police.

There were reports of gunfire from some witnesses at the west end of the midway, but police found no property damage or anyone injured which would have supported those claims.

No arrests were made, with police saying the people involved in the disturbances had dispersed prior to officers’ arrival.

The fair ended Sunday. Officials said future fairs will require anyone under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a guardian after 6 p.m.
