Fight between inmates at Alabama county jail sends 1 to hospital
An altercation between two inmates at the Etowah County Jail left one of them hospitalized, and the placed in isolation at the lockup.
The fight happened just before 2 p.m. Sunday, said Sheriff Jonathon Horton.
Both inmates were in a holding cell.
One of them is a 33-year-old man held on a DUI charge who was waiting to be taken to the Attalla Police Department. The other inmate is a 49-year-old man who was arrested hours earlier on charges of giving false information to authorities and receiving stolen property for a vehicle he was in that had been stolen out of Virginia.
Special Operations deputies responded to the jail and broke up the altercation.
The 33-year-old inmate was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Birmingham. The nature of his injuries and his condition have not been released.
Authorities have not released the identity of either inmate.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation at the request of the sheriff.
