Female pedestrian hit, critically injured in east Jefferson County
A female pedestrian was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle Friday night in eastern Jefferson County.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 9:07 p.m. to a service station at the intersection of Highway 79 and Sweeny Hollow Road in Pinson, said Lt. Joni Money.
Authorities said the pedestrian, whose name has not been released, is believed to have been intoxicated when she wandered into the roadway and was hit.
She was taken by ambulance to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the female remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
