Feds arrest north Alabama man for cyberstalking, extortion
Federal authorities have arrested a New Hope man on charges of cyberstalking and extortion.
U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton L. Peeples Monday announced the arrest of Donald Wayne Carmody, 29.
The arrest came following a three-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court.
The indictment alleges that Carmody cyberstalked the victim from Aug. 13 to Oct. 12, 2023, according to a news release.
If convicted, Carmody faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for cyberstalking and up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine for extortion.
The FBI investigated the case.
