FDA sets highest risk level for burger recall
A recall of seafood burgers has been updated to the highest risk by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Connecticut-based company Caraluzzi’s Markets initiated the recall in April because its Italian Style Seafood Burgers contain undeclared egg, which poses a risk of serious or life-threatening reactions to people with egg allergies.
According to an announcement from the FDA, the seafood burgers come in eight-ounce clear packaging with a blue overwrap label and an expiration date of January 16, 2026. The package has a UPC number of 0-95864-80008-8.
The burgers were sold from February 18 to April 2, 2025.
One allergic reaction has been reported to date.
The recall is classified as a Class I meaning the product could create a “situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
Caraluzzi’s Markets initiated the recall after an investigation was launched following a consumer complaint. The investigation discovered that the affected seafood burgers were distributed in packaging that did not list the presence of egg. The mislabeled product has been removed from sale, according to the FDA report.
The FDA is urging consumers who have purchased the burgers to return them for a full refund.
