FDA announces new recall on popular salad kits

People who are allergic to fish and wheat may be in danger if they consume a salad kit that a vegetable company is recalling, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Little Leaf Farms is recalling a batch of Southwest Salad kits. If the public finds the 050011 as the first six digits of the lot number, the company is asking them to return the kits to where they bought them or immediately destroy them.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat and/or fish run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” Little Leaf said in its voluntary recall announcement that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration posted on its website.

Though Little Leaf determined that fewer than 20 kits were wrongly assembled, the recall callout is affecting 96 cases containing 576 kits, with the products distributed to Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. The procuring stores are Ahold USA Freetown, Kilduff, Stew Leonard’s, Associated Grocers of New England, Shapiro Produce, and C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc (Hatfield).

The affected products have March 8 as the enjoy by dates and were produced between Feb. 20-22.

“The issue was identified after receiving one consumer complaint noting incorrect ingredients. No injuries or illnesses have been reported to date,” the company said. “While the products are safe to eat and the company believes the issue is extremely limited, it is taking this measure to ensure the safety of its consumers.”
