Father, 2 others plead guilty in ‘forced ingestion’ drug overdose death of Walker County 26-year-old

Three people have pleaded guilty in the drug in the drug overdose death of a 26-year-old Jasper man, including his own father.

Landon Tyler Rader died at a Laura Drive home on March 27, 2023. Authorities said “forced ingestion” contributed to his death.

It was not clear how Rader was forced to ingest the drugs.

His father, 49-year-old Jamie Rader, pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, Walker County District Attorney Bill Adair announced Tuesday evening.

Ryan Clark, 25, pleaded guilty to felony murder. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Tonya Keene, 45, pleaded guilty to unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. She received a 15-year sentence with three years to actually serve.

Adair said the case was the first homicide prosecution in Walker County of a drug-related overdose.

The facts of the case, Adair said, include the initial overdose, the failure to call for medical attention for Landon Rader and the inducing the ingestion of additional narcotics, all of which contributed to Landon’s Rader’s death.

Jamie Rader was the victim’s father. Authorities said the other two defendants were neighbors.

The trio was initially indicted in 2023.

Charge documents said the defendants furnished the methamphetamine and/or amphetamine and/or Hydrocodone that led to Landon Rader’s death.

Deputies responded to the overdose in the Thach community that Monday and noticed something didn’t look right, said Capt. Darrell Mote. An investigation was immediately launched.

The case was investigated by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, headed by Jason Bridges, supervised by Capt. Darrell Mote and assisted by Mike Cole, Brian Keeton, Bryant Parkhurst, Slade Reeves and Tony Reid.

Adair said the work of the investigators and Assistant District Attorney Garve Ivey III led to the plead agreements, all of which were entered on Monday.
