Family sought for state prison inmate found dead in cell at William Donaldson Correctional Facility
Authorities are searching for family members of an Alabama prison inmate who died over the weekend at William Donaldson Correctional Facility.
Michael Theodore Medders, 61, was found unresponsive in his cell at 8:42 p.m. Sunday, and pronounced dead at 8:54 p.m. The discovery was made by another inmate.
Medders was serving a life sentence for capital murder from a 1989 conviction out of Etowah County.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said an autopsy showed no signs of trauma or foul play. They are awaiting the results of additional lab studies to determine his cause of death.
His body is ready to be released for burial, but the coroner’s office has not been able to locate his next of kin.
Yates said family is asked to call the coroner’s office at 205-930-3603.
