Family sought for man who died serving life in Alabama prison
Authorities are searching for family members of a state prison inmate who died at a Birmingham hospital last week.
Tommy Powell, 58, was serving a life sentence at William Donaldson Correctional Facility.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Powell was transferred from the prison infirmary to UAB Hospital on Oct. 12 because of a declining health condition. He died at the hospital on Oct. 13.
An autopsy found no signs of trauma or foul play.
Yates said all attempts to locate Powell’s next of kin have failed. He possibly has family in Huntsville.
Family members are asked to call the coroner’s office at 205-930-3603.
