Family sought for 70-year-old man found dead in Birmingham home

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding the family of a 70 -year-old man who died recently in Birmingham.

Dejong Dirk Kinney was found dead on Jan. 21 inside his home on Princeton Avenue Southwest after a concerned neighbor asked police to perform a welfare check.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Kinney died of natural causes.

His body is ready to be released for burial, but the coroner’s office has not been able to find and notify any relatives.

Kinney listed previous addresses in the 900 block of 24th Street Southwest and the 1400 block of 18th Street South in Birmingham.

Neighbors told authorities Kinney was not originally from Birmingham and they had no knowledge about his family.
