Family sought for 4 people who died in Jefferson County in recent weeks

The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office is requesting the assistance of the public in locating family of the following four decedents who recently died in Jefferson County.  If you are family or if you have knowledge of family, please call the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office at 205-930-3603.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding family members of four people who died in Jefferson County in recent weeks.

Their bodies are ready to be released for burial, but the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has not been able to locate their next of kin.

Jeffrey Lee Wilhoit, a 63-year-old white male, was found dead April 13 by his landlord who was performing a welfare check. Wilhoit lived in the 100 block of Sharit Lane in Gardendale.

His cause of death has not yet been determined, but Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said foul play was not involved.

All attempts to identify and locate family have failed, Yates said.

Juan Lara Maldonado, a 62-year-old Hispanic male, died April 19.

Maldonado was a tenant of Legacy Health and Rehabilitation in Pleasant Grove and was under the care of Pro Health Hospice. He died of natural causes.

Yates said Maldonado lived in Cullman in 2021. A photo of Maldonado was not available.

Yolanda Miquesha Brantley, a 44-year-old Black female, was found dead April 24 inside a friend’s residence in the 6500 block of First Avenue North.

Her cause of death is pending, but Yates said there was no foul play.

All attempts to identify and locate family have failed, Yates said.

Lillie Richardson, an 81-year-old Black female, died of natural causes April 29 at South Health and Rehabilitation on 17th Street South in Birmingham. She was under the care of Comfort Care Hospice and the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

Richard died of natural causes. All attempts to identify and locate family have been unsuccessful.
