Family sought for 2 people who died in Jefferson County last week

Authorities are looking for family members who two people who died recently in Jefferson County.

No foul play was involved in their deaths, but their bodies are ready to be released for burial and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has not been able to locate their next of kin.

Earline Peasant Hood, 88, was found unresponsive on Oct. 23 in her bedroom at a boarding home in the 1400 block of 17th Street North. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:07 p.m. that Monday.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Hood died of natural causes.

Hood previously listed a home address at 704 24th Avenue West in Birmingham.

Marvin James Turner, 86, was found dead, also on Oct. 23, at his home on Main Street in Mulga.

The discovery was made by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies after a postal worker asked for a welfare check.

Yates said Turner’s wife, Linda Turner, died in 2010. They have not been able to identify any other family members.
