Authorities are trying to find family members of two people who died in Jefferson County recently, including a pedestrian who was fatally struck in Homewood.

Dennis Edward Hancock, a 52-year-old white male, was crossing West Oxmoor Road at 1:02 a.m. Friday when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle stopped, police said.

Hancock was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:27 a.m.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said all attempts to locate Hancock’s family to notify them of his death have failed. No photo was available for Hancock.

Harriett Elizabeth McMillian (Jefferson County Coroner’s Office)

In the second case, Harriett Elizabeth McMillian, a 65-year-old Black female, died Saturday.

Birmingham police went to McMillian’s home in the 1700 block of 26th Street in Ensley just after 5:30 p.m. to perform a welfare check at the request of a concerned neighbor.

They found her unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead on the scene. There was no trauma or foul play, Yates said.

All attempts to locate her family also have been unsuccessful.

Family members are asked to call the coroner’s office at 205-930-3603.
