Family sought for 2 men who died recently in Birmingham

Authorities are searching for family members of two men who died in Birmingham last month.

Their bodies are ready to be released for burial, but the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has not been able to locate and notify relatives for either man.

Darrell Talton, 48, died June 19 at UAB Hospital.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Talton was homeless and was being treated at the hospital where he died of natural causes.

He said little is known about Talton.

James Steven Arrington(Jefferson County Coroner’s Office)

James Steven Arrington, 56, died June 26, also at UAB Hospital.

Arrington was found in medical distress outside of the Fire House Shelter on June 17. He was taken to UAB, where he died nine days later.

His cause of death has not yet been determined, but Yates said there was no evidence of trauma or foul play.

Arrington in 2020 listed an address in Jemison, but also has past ties to Prattville, Collins, Mississippi and Hattiesburg, MS.  Ancestry searches suggest that he and his family are originally from Mississippi, Yates said.

Family members asked to call the coroner’s office at 205-930-3603.
