A 25-year-old man who died over the weekend – almost a month after he was shot in south Birmingham – is being remembered as loving and caring.

Quinterrious “Fat” Patton died Sunday at UAB Hospital, where he had remained since he was shot Oct. 14.

“This was a total shock to his friends and family,’’ according to a GoFundMe launched by his cousin to help with his burial.

The shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. that Saturday in the 100 block of Stoneridge Road at Adona apartments. South Precinct officers arrived at the location to find Patton suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said they have obtained little information about the circumstances that led up to the shooting.

Keiaira Bouiie, the mother of Patton’s three young children, said Patton seemed to be recovering from the gunshot wound.  He had sustained damage to his kidney and liver and had collapsed lungs.

“He was doing good, up and talking and Facetiming with the kids,’’ she said. “He was able to drink water and eat ice, but he never got to the point where he could eat. He was doing physical therapy.”

Patton developed an infection in his gunshot wound and underwent surgery.

“He made it out of the surgery and then took a turn for the worse,’’ Bouiie said.

“They have him 24 hours to live and he made it 48 hours,’’ she said. “I was with him every day and I just prayed over him.”

No arrests have been made.

Patton leaves behind two sons and a daughter – ages 6 and 1.

“He loved his kids,’’ she said.

Patton grew up in Titusville and attended Parker High School.

Bouiie said Patton grew up playing basketball and swimming competitively.  “He played all sports,’’ she said.

“He had friends from all over,’’ she said. “He was the life of the party.”

“He loved everybody,’’ she said.
