Falcons vs. Panthers NFL Week 6 predictions, odds, and best bets: Can Cousins stay hot?

The Atlanta Falcons head to Charlotte this weekend in an attempt to earn their third-straight win. Standing across the field will be the Carolina Panthers, who have earned only one victory this season.

Falcons vs. Panthers predictions and best bets

The Atlanta Falcons’ ability to bounce back from adversity this season has been incredible to see. They started the season 1-2, and many began questioning whether QB Kirk Cousins was the man to lead them into the postseason.

Since then, Atlanta has earned two impressive wins and sits atop the NFC South.

The Falcons continue to improve with each game. The same cannot be said for the Carolina Panthers – one of only two teams in the NFC with a 1-4 record through five games.

This is a game the Falcons should win handily.

Cousins has been steadily improving and has recorded more than 1,300 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns this season.

With its offense more on point than ever, expect to see Atlanta cover the 6-point spread Sunday.

Cousins became the first QB in modern football history last week to earn more than 250 passing yards in both the first and second half of a game.

WR Drake London was one of his primary targets downfield.

London picked up 154 receiving yards that game and one touchdown. Cousins will be looking for London this weekend, and it’s likely that the 23-year-old wide receiver will earn at least 69 yards.

I went back and forth on whether this game will end with a point total above or below 47 points.

In the end, I decided to pick the over. The Falcons are clearly improving and have scored 26 and 36 points over their past two games.

It would not be a shock to see Atlanta score even more points this Sunday against the Panthers.

Will Carolina manage to put points on the board often in this game? Probably not. I still feel that with Atlanta’s offensive firepower, this game will end above the over.

NFL Week 6 Falcons vs. Panthers odds

No one should be surprised to see the Falcons coming into this game as the heavy favorite. They’ve looked fantastic in recent weeks.

The Panthers, meanwhile, are coming off their worst defeat of the season to the Chicago Bears.

Atlanta is giving up 6 points in this matchup. The game total is currently set at 47 points.

Falcons vs. Panthers moneyline odds analysis

For many fans, the outcome of Sunday’s game between the Falcons and Panthers is not in question. The teams’ trajectories appear to be heading in different directions.

With that being said, anything can happen in the NFL.

The Falcons come in as the heavy favorites. The Carolina Panthers cannot seem to catch a break.

Carolina had a somewhat mediocre roster heading into the start of the season. The team has since suffered numerous injuries on both offense and defense.

Why the Falcons could win as the favorite

Best odds: -240 at Caesars Sportsbook

The Atlanta Falcons soon could establish themselves as one of the top teams in the NFC. A win over Carolina does not necessarily prove that, yet it doesn’t hurt the case, either.

At 36 years old, Cousins is showing no signs of slowing down. He had one of the best performances of his career last week, throwing for 509 yards and four touchdowns.

With confidence and momentum on his side, Cousins could be in for another big week.

He is an elite passer and has some excellent wide receivers to look for downfield. That includes London, who was instrumental in the team’s win over Tampa Bay.

Carolina has an abysmal pass-rush game. This will give Cousins all the time he needs to find his targets downfield.

Why the Panthers could win as the underdog

Best odds: +220 at FanDuel Sportsbook

It’s been a while since the Carolina Panthers established themselves as a real Super Bowl contender. It does not appear this will be the season that anything changes.

The team has earned only one win so far – a victory over the Oakland Raiders in week 3. QB Andy Dalton appears to be trying his best, yet continues to face teams with far better overall rosters.

Injuries have no doubt impacted the Panthers, too.

Heading into Sunday’s game against Atlanta, they will be missing defensive players Derrick Brown, Shaq Thompson and Austin Corbett. On offense, Adam Thielen, Tommy Tremble and Taylor Moton are all unable to play.

Carolina will need to make changes defensively in order to win Sunday.

Head coacg Dave Canales should rally his team to begin putting pressure on the QB. If Carolina can force Cousins to scramble, they can prevent him from getting into a groove with his passing game.
