Fairfield’s Shepherd Skanes, St. Michael’s Philip Rivers faced off in 1999 playoffs
Football coaches Shepherd Skanes of Fairfield and Philip Rivers St. Michael have met before.
Skanes played with Birmingham’s Phillips High School in 1999 when the Red Raiders faced Athens, quarterbacked by Rivers, in the second round of Class 5A playoffs. Coached by Rivers’ father Steve, Athens won 28-14.
