Expert Super Bowl 59 player prop picks: Our best bets for Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith
A pair of former Alabama Crimson Tide teammates, Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith, will get their second chance to win a ring in Super Bowl 59. The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl 57.
In their previous Super Bowl meeting, Hurts passed for 304 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for three touchdowns and 70 yards.
Smith caught seven passes for 100 yards. The Eagles wide receiver can become just the fourth player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, national championship and Super Bowl with a win over Kansas City.
We pinpoint the best Super Bowl 59 prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for the two Alabama alumni as they aim to interrupt the Kansas City dynasty. You can also view the latest Super Bowl betting trends here.
Jalen Hurts prop pick
Anytime TD Scorer
Best odds: -110 at DraftKings Sportsbook ($100 bet wins $90.91)
This is a good route to go for winning over 90 dollars. Only Saquon Barkley has better Anytime TD Odds than the king of the most unstoppable play in the NFL, the “Tush Push.” Not even the mighty Chiefs may be able to fully keep Hurts out of the end zone.
In Super Bowl 57, Hurts rushed for TDs of one, two and four yards. In the NFC Championship Game this season, he got into the end zone three times.
Kansas City is the best defense that the Eagles will face in the playoffs. The Chiefs held Josh Allen out of the end zone, but did allow two rushing touchdowns to James Cook, one of which was from a yard out.
The Chiefs have allowed 25-plus points in their last two playoff games, so Philadelphia will certainly get into position for some potential rushing touchdowns. With all the attention focused on Barkley, Hurts might be able to score from a bit further out than the immediate goal line area.
Kansas City will be heavily focused on limiting Barkley, and Hurts may elect to open up the passing game early. Consider taking Hurts at Over 212.5 passing yards at -110. One of the interesting DraftKings Specials is for the Philly QB to pass for Over 25 yards in each quarter at +155.
DeVonta Smith player prop pick
Over 4.5 Receptions
Best odds: -111 at DraftKings Sportsbook ($100 bet wins $90.09)
Smith should be able to get past this projected reception total because he can benefit from the defensive attention commanded by Barkley and A.J. Brown. The former Crimson Tide standout is essentially the third playmaking option on offense for the Eagles.
The top priority for the Kansas City defense will be to contain Barkley. In the passing game, top cornerback Trent McDuffie should draw A.J. Brown in coverage often. Smith might face Jaylen Watson a lot, and he is a good CB too, but any double-teaming will focus more on Brown.
Smith should be able win enough against Watson to help you cash this prop. Watson ranked 21st out of 116 CBs on Pro Football Focus this season. McDuffie was fifth, so Smith is drawing the better matchup.
If the Eagles’ WR does get matched up against nickel CB Chamarri Conner, though, he could bust loose for a big play. Conner is ranked 51st by PFF and has been the unit’s weak link in the postseason. Smith’s longest reception prop is Over 20.5 Yards at -125.
Smith’s Over/Under for yards is 51.5 at -112, and that is not a high number to clear, although he has not done so in two of three playoff games. He has also caught four passes in each postseason outing, too.
But I am recommending the Over on both props because Hurts will have to utilize Smith often enough when the defense is geared to mainly stop Barkley and Brown.
