Evergreen police, state investigating Conecuh County double homicide
Two men were killed in a double homicide at an apartment complex in Evergreen, according to the Conecuh County Coroner’s Office.
Specifics on the incident were not released, but it occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Green Apartments on Preyer Street.
The coroner’s office identified as two Evergreen residents: 23-year-old Raenajai Smith, who was pronounced dead at the scene; and 22-year-old James Matthews Jr., who was transported by EMS to Evergreen Medical Center and pronounced dead on arrival. The families of both victims have been notified.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Mobile will perform autopsies on both victims.
The Evergreen Police Department and Alabama State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the case.
