Evan Neal still not practicing with the New York Giants

As the New York Giants opened their three-day mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, offensive tackle Evan Neal rode a stationary bike as his teammates practiced.

The former Alabama All-American missed 10 games last season and had offseason ankle surgery.

“You’ll see him at training camp,” Giants coach Brian Daboll had said about Neal’s status before Tuesday’s practice.

Because Daboll also said the team “thought for the next couple days, we’ll back off on him,” the coach was asked if Neal had suffered a setback.

“He’s kind of about the same,” Daboll said. “He’s about the same. We’re going to back off him here, and, hopefully, we can get — the plan is right now, as of whatever today is, is I think we should have everybody ready to go for training camp, which is important, so we’re going to be smart with a few people. Then, hopefully, once training camp, July 24, hits, unless something happens between now and then, hopefully, we’ll have everybody.”

Neal joined the Giants from Alabama as the seventh selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. He started 13 regular-season games and two playoff contests at right tackle as a rookie. He missed four games in the middle of the season because of a shoulder injury.

In 2023, New York tumbled to a 6-11 record.

Neal lined up at right tackle for almost every Giants’ offensive snap in the first six games of the season. But in the remaining 11 games, he played only once — on Nov. 5 in a 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

New York finally placed Neal on injured reserve on Dec. 24.

After practicing on Wednesday and Thursday, the Giants will take their summer break until reporting for training camp late next month.
