ESPN’s Heather Dinich on CFP: ‘Don’t count out the Tide’

A little college football havoc on Saturday bodes well for the Alabama Crimson Tide, according to ESPN’s Heather Dinich.

The initial College Football Playoff rankings will be released Tuesday night. While seven top-25 teams took a loss over the weekend, Dinich said that gives Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama team – which ranks No. 5 in strength of schedule, according to ESPN – a shot in the arm.

“I would throw two-loss Alabama back in the conversation,” she said when asked who benefits most from the weekend. “The Tide is one of the top teams in ESPN strength of record metric.

“By the way, they now have a loss to bowl-eligible Vanderbilt team, which certainly doesn’t look as bad as it did that day and one of the best wins in the country against Georgia. So, don’t count out the Tide. I would actually count them in.”

Dinich also mentioned Notre Dame, which has the 62nd strength of schedule, as a team which benefitted from the weekend.

ESPN reports Alabama has a 51 percent chance of making the playoffs, while the Irish has a 61 percent chance.
