Escaped work release inmate found hiding in north Alabama cornfield

An inmate who escaped from work release in north Alabama was later found hiding in a cornfield, authorities said Tuesday.

Torry Harrison, who had last been seen driving a black truck in Florence, is back in the Lauderdale County jail without bond after he was recaptured, Florence police told WAFF.

Harrison pulled into the far-right lane on Singing River Bridge as if he was going to pull over but instead sped up, police told the station.

He then turned onto River Road at speeds greater than 110 m.p.h., and police canceled the search for the escaped inmate when they lost sight of his vehicle as Harrison passed Foster Mill Road.

A motorist in the vicinity told police the driver turned into a cornfield.

Florence and Muscle Shoals officers cordoned off the cornfield and a drone was deployed to help police pinpoint Harrison in the cornfield.
