The designers of a new project being planned for Ensley hope to drive a community revitalization through a mixed-use development.

Work could begin next year on Ensley Social, situated on five acres near 22nd Street and Avenue E, only a few blocks from Tuxedo Junction. The land, purchased by Andre’a Parker, president and CEO of Parker and Associations Investment Co.

In addition to condos, the development would feature space for living, business incubators and entertainment. Included will be small business market stalls, a farmers market, food truck stalls and an amphitheater, addressing economic development, food availability and entertainment.

An Ensley native, Parker graduated from West End High School and later Faulkner University. She knows the area well, as she said she used to play on the street where Ensley Social would be situated.

“Ensley Social is a place where people can connect, and the community feels empowered,” a statement on its website reads.

“From the streetscapes on the walkable streets, the mixed-use development with neighborhood inspired architecture all the way to the entertainment epicenter, Ensley Social will be a true tourist and resident destination while paying homage to Ensley’s rich history.”

Ensley Social would address several community needs, including food availability, entertainment and housing. (Ensley Social)
