EMTs, hospital personnel save 3-year-old Florida child pulled unresponsive from pool

Tireless efforts by first responders and hospital staff saved the life of a 3-year-old Florida child who was pulled from a pool, unresponsive and without a pulse.

According to the Okaloosa County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office, the child was discovered in the pool Saturday. An off-duty EMT began life-saving efforts until deputies and medical personnel arrived at the scene. Life-saving measures continued as the child was taken to the North Okaloosa Medical Center (NOMC) in Crestview.

Once there, NOMC and Med Flight staff continued efforts to revive the child. After about an hour after the child was found unresponsive, medical personnel were finally successful in regaining a pulse and other signs of life, according to the sheriff’s office.

The child was stabilized and airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Information on the child’s condition was not immediately available Monday.

Lt. Tony Kelly with the OCSO praised the unrelenting efforts by the medical personnel who saved the child.

“Outstanding work by every hand that touched the child after such a tragic accident,” Kelly said. “In all my years, I have never seen such a large group of medical professionals work so seamless and diligent for such a long period of time without ever losing hope or will.”
