Eminem reacts to Detroit Lions’ loss to 49ers in NFC Championship Game

Yes, the Kansas City Chiefs have Taylor Swift, but the Detroit Lions have Eminem.

The 51-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, was at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco on Sunday as his Lions watched a 17-point lead evaporate in the 49ers’ 34-31 win.

Brock Purdy threw for 267 yards and a touchdown, and the San Francisco 49ers rallied from 17 points down at halftime to beat the Detroit Lions 34-31 on Sunday and reach the Super Bowl.

Detroit fell short of reaching the first Super Bowl in franchise history.

On Sunday, Eminem reacted to the loss.

“So proud of the Lions,” he posted on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Thanks for an amazing season! We’ll be back!”

Eminem grew up most of his early life in a suburb outside Detroit and is an ardent Lions fan.

He was decked out in Lions gear on Sunday, including a Lions T-shirt and hat. He went viral during the game after it appeared he was flipping two middle fingers at a group of 49ers fans.

The 49ers (14-5) scored 17 points in an eight-minute span of the third quarter to tie the NFC championship game and then pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a rematch against Kansas City after losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl four years ago.

San Francisco mounted the fourth comeback ever from 17 points down or more in a conference title game thanks to some big plays by Purdy and bad mistakes from the Lions (14-6), including two failed fourth downs in field-goal range.

With the defeat, the Lions have fallen short of playing in a Super Bowl for the 58th consecutive year of the event’s existence, doing so in one of the most heartbreaking ways imaginable. It leaves the franchise, and the city that never ceases to support it, dreaming of a title that has eluded them since that 1957 season.
