Elon Musk says Mark Zuckerberg cage match will be live on X
Elon Musk implied that his potential cage match against Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg is actually happening — and that spectators can watch the embattled CEOs duke it out live on X.
“Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X,” Musk wrote in a Sunday morning post. “All proceeds will go to charity for veterans.”
While the supposed Las Vegas fight has not been confirmed by representatives of X, Meta or UFC, recent signs point to both chief execs preparing for a showdown.
On Wednesday, Zuckerberg, 39, posted about a new octagon he had built in his backyard (and his wife’s displeasure with it). Earlier Sunday, the 51-year-old Musk claimed that he was lifting weights in preparation for the fight.
“Don’t have time to work out, so I just bring them to work,” Musk wrote.
News of the potential bout between the tech rivals first broke in June, when Musk responded to a tweet about Meta’s new competitor app Threads, saying the world is becoming “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options.”
When another Twitter user mentioned Zuckerberg’s mixed martial arts training, Musk wrote “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol.” Zuckerberg responded on Instagram, saying “Send me location.”
While some have speculated the Meta CEO would easily defeat Musk, others point to the significant size disparity between the two, as Zuckerberg is estimated to be only 5′-7″ and Musk stands at 6′ 1.”
In June, TMZ reported that Musk’s size advantage had become a significant issue in moving forward with plans for the fight.
“I have this great move that I call ‘The Walrus,’ where I just lie on top of my opponent & do nothing,” Musk jokingly tweeted just a few days before the article broke.
As Musk endeavors to transform Twitter, now-called X, into a “digital town square,” he appears keen on live-streaming the potential matchup.
However, his widely-publicized Twitter Spaces launch event in May, where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his presidential candidacy, faced challenges with technical issues and a nearly 30-minute delay.
At the time, Musk attributed the problems to the servers being overwhelmed by the large number of people attempting to listen to the audio-only event.
