Election 2022: Here’s a look at contested congressional and legislative races in Madison County

Madison County voters will go to the polls on Tuesday. In addition to statewide offices, residents will cast their ballots in the 5th Congressional District race and legislative races. Here is a list of the contested races on the ballot in Madison County:

United States Representative, 5th Congressional District

Democrat: Kathy Warner-Stanton, of Decatur, has worked as a computer specialist for the federal government and a program project manager in the corporate world in addition to being a military spouse, according to her website. She lists education, economic development and healthcare among her priorities.

Republican: Dale Strong, of Huntsville, has served as Madison County Commission chairman since 2012. He also serves as chairman for the Huntsville Metropolitan Planning Organization. He lists cutting wasteful spending, support for law enforcement and border protection among his priorities.

State Senate, District 2

Democrat: Kim Caudle Lewis, Harvest, is the owner of multiple businesses. She has served as the chairwoman of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber. She has served on the boards of Huntsville Utilities, Cummings Research Park and Crestwood Medical Center. She touts her experience helping small businesses and job creation.

Republican: Tom Butler, of Huntsville, has represented the district since 2018, and previously served from 1994-2010. A pharmacist by trade, he lists road construction and the passing of an election integrity bill among his accomplishments.

State Senate, District 3

Republican: Arthur Orr, Decatur, was first elected in 2006. Executive vice president of Cook’s Pest Control, he serves as chairman of the Senate Finance and Taxation Education Committee. He has sponsored legislation to make state government more transparent and touts his experience as a business recruiter.

Libertarian: Rick Chandler, Huntsville, is a retired engineer. He supports residents putting ballot initiatives and constitutional amendments on the ballot.

State Senate, District 7

Democrat: Korey Wilson, Huntsville, is an actor and community organizer. He supports greater investment in public education, expanding Medicaid, reforming the criminal justice system and a legal recreation marijuana market.

Republican: Sam Givhan, Huntsville, was elected in 2018. A real estate attorney, he serves as the vice chair of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee. Before his election, he was finance director and chairman of the Madison County Republican Party.

State Representative, District 6

Republican: Andy Whitt, Harvest, was elected in 2018. A banker and volunteer firefighter, he serves as chairman of the Economic Development and Tourism committee. He touts his experiencing in securing funds for local road projects.

Libertarian: Greg Turner has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO.

State Representative, District 10

Democrat: Marilyn Lands, Huntsville, is a licensed professional counselor who previously worked in the banking and aerospace industries, according to her website. She pledges to recruit new industries to her district and lists education and health care among her priorities.

Republican: David Cole, Madison, is medical director of Occupational Health Group. A combat veteran, he supports expanding programs for veterans and increased funding for the National Guard. According to his website, he supports building new schools in the district.

Libertarian: Elijah Boyd, Madison, is running for the second time for the District 10 seat. He is a software developer, according to Linkedin.

State Representative, District 25

Democrat: Mallory Hagan, Madison County, is a former Miss America and a businesswoman. Hagan works for the Business Outreach Center Network, a nonprofit that provides resources for underserved entrepreneurs. She ran unsuccessfully for U.S. House in 2018, losing to District 3 Rep, Mike Rogers.

Republican: Phillip K. Rigsby, Huntsville, is a pharmacist and business owner. Cutting wasteful spending, recruiting industry and creating jobs and providing schools with technology are among his priorities.
