An elderly woman was found dead in a burning Mobile apartment Tuesday night, officials said.

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department personnel responded to the Stone Ridge Apartments on Grant Street on a report of a fire, Fox 10 reported.

The department could not be reached to confirm the report, and a Mobile police spokeswoman said her agency did not have information on the incident.

Firefighters found an apartment unit on fire, and a resident of the apartment complex told them they believed someone was inside the unit.

Firefighters discovered the elderly woman dead inside the apartment.

Authorities are investigating both the cause of the fire and whether the blaze is to blame for the woman’s death.

No other injuries were reported.
