An elderly man died after he drowned Thursday in a Bibb County park, officials said Friday.

The Brierfield Volunteer Fire Department was notified of a possible drowning around 4:13 p.m. in Limestone Park off Bulldog Bend Road in Brierfield, the agency said Friday on its Facebook page.

Following a search, firefighters located and recovered the body of the victim, only identified as an elderly male, about 500 yards from where he was believed to have entered the water.

The department was assisted by Montevallo Fire & Rescue 20, AmServ and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
