Elderly couple, ages 92 and 88, dead in apparent murder-suicide in Auburn

An elderly couple was found shot to death Thursday night in an apparent murder-suicide in Auburn, police said Friday.

Officers responded to a house in the 200 block of Payne Street around 11:30 p.m. Thursday on a call requesting a welfare check, police said.

Inside the house, police found an 88-year-old woman and a 92-year-old man who were both dead.

A single gunshot wound was found on both victims and a gun was discovered in the house, police said.

There was no evidence to suggest anyone else was home at the time of the shootings, authorities said.

The preliminary investigation revealed the couple were married and lived in the home.

Police said there was no danger to the public in connection with the incident.

The case remained under investigation as of Friday.
