Eight Alabama head coaches to get contract extensions, new deals

The contracts of 12 Alabama coaches — eight of whom are head coaches — are up for consideration Tuesday.

The compensation committee of the University of Alabama System board of trustees are expected to approve all 12 including the initial contract for new baseball coach Rob Vaughn.

Those getting renewed deals include Crimson Tide softball coach Patrick Murphy having just completed his 25th year leading the program. He signed a new deal in 2021 worth between $475,000 and $515,000 a year through 2026.

Women’s basketball coach Kristi Curry also had her contract refreshed two years ago to run through 2025. She’s been at Alabama since 2012 and is on the list of coaches who’ll get new contracts Tuesday.

  • Also among those head coaches getting new deals Tuesday include the following:
  • Men’s golf coach Jay Seawell, on the job since 2002 and won national titles in 2013 and 2014.
  • Women’s tennis coach Jonatan Berhane who was just hired in April
  • Swimming coach Margo Geer, who was hired after the 2020-21 season
  • Gymnastics coach Ashley Johnston who just completed her first year coaching her alma mater
  • Track and field coach Dan Waters who has been on the job since 2011.

A few assistant coaches and staff members, including athletics trainer Jeff Allen, will also get new contracts. He last got a refresh in 2021 with a salary of $250,000 that was set to increase by $10,000 for the next three years.

Also on the list of assistants/staff members include

  • Men’s basketball assistant Austin Claunch
  • Baseball assistant coach Jason Jackson who served as interim head coach after Brad Bohannon’s firing May 4 through the end of the season.
  • Men’s basketball assistant Ryan Pannone

The compensation committee meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
