Eddie Jackson joins Alabama’s NFL team captains
Chicago safety Eddie Jackson played with a “C” on his uniform for the first time this season on Sunday in the Bears’ 49-29 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The former Alabama standout got elevated into a team-captain position for the remainder of the 2022 NFL season after the Bears traded defensive end Robert Quinn to the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.

Jackson became the ninth Crimson Tide alumnus serving as a permanent team captain in the NFL this season. He joined Washington Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney, New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
“He was the next-most vote-getter when we voted for it before, so we just elevated him up to be a captain,” Chicago coach Matt Eberflus said on Monday. “I announced it right before we got on the plane after our mock game on Saturday.
“He’s certainly deserving of that. He played a pretty solid game. Had another interception, 11 tackles, so he’s having a really good year for himself, but he’s also leading our group, too, so we’re excited for him and his opportunity.”
Jackson has experienced a resurgence in the first half of the 2022 season. After failing to register an interception in the previous two seasons, Jackson has four in 2022. He picked off Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on Sunday.
Jackson intercepted 10 passes in his first three NFL seasons and returned three for touchdowns. He also returned two of his five fumble recoveries for touchdowns in that span. But in the previous two seasons, his only takeaway had been a fumble recovery in the 2020 season.

Jackson recorded the two highest tackle totals of his career in the past two seasons with 82 in 2020 and 76 in 2021, and he matched a career high with his fourth 11-tackle game on Sunday. His current 2022 pace would put him past 100 tackles before the end of the season.
With 58 tackles, Jackson is the leading tackler on Chicago’s roster after the Bears traded linebacker Roquan Smith to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday. His four interceptions also are one more than the rest of the players on the roster have this season.
The Bears play the Dolphins at noon CST Sunday at Soldier Field in Chicago. Miami has a 5-3 record, and Chicago owns a 3-5 mark.
