Earthquake detected near Alabama state line

A minor earthquake occurred at 7 a.m. Tuesday just over the Alabama state line, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake was detected roughly 5 miles north of Menlo, GA, which is less than half an hour away from Fort Payne.

It registered as a 2.6 on the Richter Scale, meaning it would have been just barely felt by nearby residents.

No injuries or damage have been reported.
