Drug raid in Birmingham leads to 9 arrests; drugs, guns seized
A drug bust in Birmingham led to the arrests of nine people and the seizure of fentanyl, meth, cocaine and cash.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office carried out the search Wednesday in the 1700 block of 32nd Place North by the Vice and Narcotics Unit, along with the Drone Unit, SWAT and the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team.
Among the drugs seized were: 88 grams of Fentanyl; 40 grams of methamphetamine; five grams of Cocaine; 680 grams of marijuana; one Xanax pill; and three clonazepam tablets.
Investigators also confiscated $8,621, six guns including an AR pistol, brass knuckles, digital scales and drug packaging material.
“This is another example of how our specialized units work together to keep our citizens safe,” Sheriff Mark Pettway said. “Taking drugs and weapons off of the streets of Jefferson County helps to accomplish this goal.”
Those charged are:
- Rodtreiz Ladamion Smith, 41, two counts of drug trafficking, distribution of cocaine, possession of marijuana in the first and second degrees.
- Joshua Perry, 23, drug trafficking and possession of marijuana.
- Demario Demonte Gray, 26, carry brass knuckles/slingshot, loitering for drug purposes, and possession of marijuana.
- Chris Laran Scott, 45, loitering and gambling.
- Derrick Dewayne Day, 46, loitering from purposes.
- Darius Lamar Coates, 35, certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol and loitering for drug purposes.
- Demarkus James Smith, 31, loitering for drug purposes and possession of a controlled substance.
- Semajay Reynolds, 20, loitering for drug purposes, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Ahmad Alexander Amerson, 37, loitering for drug purposes.
Smith remains in the Jefferson County Jail. The other suspects have bonded out.
