Driver killed on I-22 when he lost control of vehicle, crashed into embankment
An Oakman man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday evening Interstate 22 in northern Jefferson County.
The wreck happened at 5:44 p.m. on I-22 in Forestdale.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said 47-year-old Joey Johnson was the driver and lone occupant of a vehicle traveling westbound. For unknown reasons, his vehicle crossed the center grass median and eastbound lanes before hitting an embankment on the side of the interstate.
Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:51 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
