Downtown Birmingham shooting sends man to hospital with life-threatening injuries

A man was rushed to the hospital Wednesday morning after he was shot in downtown Birmingham.

The shooting happened just after 10 a.m. in the 2300 block of Fifth Avenue North, which is near the Dannon Project and Park Place.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots fired and then found the wounded victim. According to police radio communications, he was able to partially describe the shooter.

The victim was shot in the chest and taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade.

No arrests have been made, but authorities are searching for a suspect.
